NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (October 15, 2012) – Boiron USA is donating proceeds from the sales of select cough, cold and flu products at Whole Foods Market stores during the month of October to nonprofit Whole Planet Foundation to help alleviate poverty worldwide. The company’s contribution will help fund the Foundation’s mission to provide poor entrepreneurs in developing countries with a chance to lift themselves out of poverty through microcredit.
“We are pleased to assist Whole Planet Foundation in raising much-needed awareness about global poverty,” said Janick Boudazin, CEO of Boiron USA. “At Boiron, we are committed to quality, ethical sourcing, and environmental stewardship and support those organizations like Whole Planet that share our core values and mission.”
In 2005, natural and organic retailer Whole Foods Market established Whole Planet Foundation as an expansion of its mission to be an active participant in the global community. The nonprofit provides grants to microfinance institutions in poor communities where the grocer sources products.
“Kudos to Boiron USA for making it easy for shoppers to make a real and lasting difference for the working poor around the world,” said Philip Sansone, president and executive director of Whole Planet Foundation. “We’re so inspired by their drive to give back and thankful for their support.”
To date, the Foundation has authorized $32.1 million and funded more than $20 million in microfinance programs in 53 countries, positively impacting more than 1.3 million people worldwide.
