In the following guest blog, car2go Communications Director Adrianne Wright shares about a car2go program that has raised enough to create more than 400 microloans.
At car2go, our mission is to super serve communities in helping them get from Point A to Point B with ease.
Last August, we launched “ride2provide” to help our communities work together to give back. We chose Whole Planet Foundation as the program’s first exclusive charity to feature in the ride2provide program, which was a huge success. Thanks to our amazing car2go members, ride2provide raised $82,777 for Whole Planet Foundation to support its efforts in alleviating global poverty through microcredit and entrepreneurship programs.
With the “ride2provide” feature, car2go members across North America had the opportunity to view a number of “heart cars” labeled with $1 donations based on their current location within the Home Area, where members can pick up and drop off a vehicle. Members were then be able to select a “heart car” to use for their trip. For each “heart car” used, car2go committed a lump donation to Whole Planet Foundation.
The impact of this $82,777 donation is far reaching and long lasting. It will fund more than 400 microloans, providing 2,100 people with the chance for a better life across 65 countries where Whole Planet Foundation alleviates poverty. In microcredit, funds are reloaned and repaid again and again in communities around the globe, providing more and more opportunities over time.
The inspiration for “ride2provide” was that we wanted to give our members the opportunity to give back to the greater good via carsharing. Our support for Whole Planet Foundation reinforces our commitment to the communities we serve, and we hope that by connecting our members through ride2provide, we can harness this power and help aspiring entrepreneurs around the world build a stronger future for us all.
Thank you to all of our car2go members for providing opportunity for 2,000 people to have a chance to change their own lives and lift themselves and their families out of poverty!
