Guayaki Yerba Mate is native to an eco-region that borders Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil, home to indigenous peoples and over 300 species of flora and fauna. Deforestation due to logging and monoculture has led to rapid loss of biodiversity, soil erosion and carbon emissions in this area. Guayaki has a business model for Market Driven Restoration, which directly links product sales to reforestation. The more yerba mate you drink, the more rainforest is protected and the more people have fair paying jobs!
Together, Guayaki, as members of our Ten Thousand Dollar Fund, and the Whole Planet Foundations support the advancement of developing communities, in South America and around the world. You can help us by voting for Guayaki in the BBC World Challenge. If Guayaki wins, the Ache tribe in Paraguay will receive $20,000 to support food security in their local community. Every vote counts!
