Over the summer, Whole Foods Market West Hollywood and Planet LA Records teamed up to produce another Summer Music Series to benefit Whole Planet Foundation, which was presented by ALO Drinks and Lifeway. This series raised enough to fund four microloans, which will impact not only the lives of the microloan recipients, but also their families.
The four-concert series kicked off on June 27, with performances by Jenni Alpert, Julia Pierce and Hobart Ocean, and a special guest–Musicians for Microcredit™ Ambassador, Rocky Dawuni. The series continued on July 25 with performances by Katie Ferrara, Charles McDonald, David Sparrow and Varna. The August 22 concert featured performances by Sonia Rao, Joseph Eid, Chaz Mason and Carly and the Universe. The series came to a close on September 12 with performances by Massimiliano Cims, Shani Rose, Tim Carr & Megan Prince and featured special guest Andy Allo, who has also supported Whole Planet Foundation during the annual pre-GRAMMY fundraiser party.

Artist / singer-songwriter Jenni Alpert, an advocate for empowerment who believes in people’s resilience to build a better life for themselves, was selected to be one of the performers at Whole Foods this summer in support of Whole Planet Foundation. Originally from Los Angeles and adopted out of the foster care system when she was four, this self made artist was a match for our mission not only because of the themes in her songwriting, but also because of the eclectic savvy ways she herself has navigated her career in the music industry. Alpert was excited to be part of fundraising for micro-lending with us because of her history connected to helping impoverished communities by bringing performances and music workshops to countries like India, Nepal, Mexico and Guatemala, the very same places we provide microloans for impoverished families to change their own lives.
“When Planet LA Records invited me to perform at the Summer Nights Concert Series at the West Hollywood Whole Foods this summer in support of Whole Planet Foundation and this great cause, I felt it was a really special opportunity to be invited to do something of the same nature in my home town for these communities.”
