This month from May 13-26th Satva Living is donating five percent of sales to help Whole Planet Foundation provide more microloans to entrepreneurs around the world. We are excited to be part of this mission and give to an organization that alleviates poverty in 64 countries around the world, including India, where founder Puja Barar grew up.
The Sanskrit word, Satva, is a state of mind in which the mind is steady, calm and peaceful. Satva means pure. This concept of holistic purity has been a defining value in Puja’s life as a yogi, mother, wife, vegetarian and entrepreneur.
“This philosophy, along with my love for active living, yoga and the strong cultural values I learned growing up in India, inspired me to launch Satva. Purity extends throughout my company’s values, from the non-GMO cotton used in our active clothing, to the pure commitment of our India Give Back program where a portion of proceeds help provide educational grants, energy efficiency improvements and agricultural advancements to our organic farming communities in India where our cotton is grown. I wanted to make organic lifestyle wear stylish and affordable, while helping to change social and economic issues plaguing India’s organic agricultural communities, ” Puja explains.
It is no secret that yoga has become a sensation in America, and so too have the many yoga clothing brands that have emerged since. Puja decided she wanted to do something a bit different with her clothing line. The company’s sustainable business model ensures a true balance of people, planet and product, with every eco conscious detail considered through the entire production process.
Designed in California–where Whole Planet Foundation also funds microcredit in San Diego, San Jose, Los Angeles and the Bay Area–and influenced by India’s exquisite prints and hues, Satva’s unique patterns and bold colors bring vibrancy to any wardrobe, and are mindfully made from Non-GMO, organic cotton and non-toxic color dyes. Satva’s organic clothing is GOTS certified, offering a safe, quality garment for any skin type. GOTS is one of the most stringent global certifications for organic cotton textiles- ensuring eco-conscious growing, manufacturing and treatment of the garments is followed at every step of the process- from seed to shirt.
“We are thrilled that our brand is in a position to support poverty alleviation through microcredit. The mission is close to our hearts, especially because Whole Planet Foundation funds microloans in communities to which we have strong ties,” says Puja.
