In a word, yes, microcredit is a tool to alleviate poverty but it is not a silver bullet. A poor woman and her family do not escape poverty after receiving a single loan. Without jobs, the poor are left to their own devices to provide for their families and credit is a way for microentrepreneurs to start or grow their businesses.
